Parent/Infant:

Ages 6 Months to 3 Years Old

Introduction for infants and toddlers to enter the water while being held while in the comfort of a familiar parent/guardian. Exposure to the sensations of being in a pool, moving arms and legs, blowing bubbles, playing with water toys, and singing fun songs easing into the experience of learning to swim.

Preschool

Level 1

Performed with Support: Enter and exit water using stairs and side, blow bubbles for 3 seconds, submerge mouth, nose, and eyes, open eyes under water and retrieve submerged objects, front glide and recover to vertical position, back glide and recover from vertical position, back float for 3 seconds, roll from front to back and back to front, arm and hand treading actions, alternating and simultaneous leg actions and arm actions on back, combined arm and leg actions on front, combined arm and leg actions on back.

Level 2

Enter water stepping in from deck or low height, exit water using ladder, steps, or side, bobbing 5 times, open eyes under water and retrieve submerged objects, front glide and recover to a vertical position, front float for 3 seconds, back glide and recover to vertical position, back float for 15 seconds, roll from front to back and back to front, tread water using arm and leg actions for 15 seconds, combined arm and leg actions on front, finning arm actions on back, combined arm and leg actions on back.

Level 3

Jump into shoulder-deep water, fully submerge and hold breath for 10 seconds, bobbing 10 times, rotary breathing, front glide and recover to vertical position, front, jellyfish, and tuck floats for 10 seconds, back glide and recover to vertical position, back float for 15 seconds, change direction of travel while swimming on front or back, tread water for 30 seconds, combined arm and leg actions on front, finning arm actions on back, combined arm and leg actions on back.

Level 1: Beginners Introduction to Water Skills

Enter water using a ramp, steps, or side, exit water using a ladder, steps, or side, blow bubbles for 3 seconds, bobbing 5 times, open your eyes under water and retrieve submerged objects, front glide, and recover to vertical position, back glide and recover to a vertical position, back float for 5 seconds, roll from front to back and back to front, treading water arm and hand actions, alternating and simultaneous leg and arm actions on front, alternating and simultaneous leg and arm actions on back, combined arm and leg actions on front, combined arm and leg actions on back.

 

Level 2: Beginner Fundamental Aquatic Skills

Step or jump from the side into shoulder-deep water, exit water using ladder, steps or side, fully submerge and hold breath, bobbing 10 times, open eyes under water and retrieve submerged objects, rotary breathing, front, jellyfish and tuck floats for 10 seconds, front glide and recover to a vertical position, back glide and recover to vertical position, back float for 15 seconds, roll from front to back and back to front, tread water for 15 seconds, change direction of travel while swimming on front or back, combined arm and leg actions on front.

Level 3: Intermediate Stroke Development

Jump into deep water from the side, submerge, return to the surface then to the side, headfirst entry from the side in seated and kneeling positions, bobbing while moving to safety, rotary breathing, survival float for 30 seconds, back float for 1 minute, tread water for 1 minute, change from vertical to horizontal position on front and back, push off in a streamlined position on front and back, swim front crawl for 15 yards, swim elementary backstroke for 15 yards, flutter, scissor, breaststroke, and dolphin kicks.

Level 4: Intermediate Stroke Improvement

Skills: Headfirst entry in compact and stride positions, feetfirst surface dive, swim underwater, tread water using 2 different kicks, survival swimming for 1 minute.

Swimming: front crawl for 25 yards, elementary backstroke for 25 yards, breaststroke for 15 yards, back crawl for 15 yards, butterfly for 15 yards, open turns on the front and back, flutter and dolphin kicks on back, push off in streamlined position on back, then begin kicking.

Level 5: Advanced Stroke Refinement

Skills: Shallow-angle dive into deep water, tuck surface dive, pike surface dive, tread water for 5 minutes, tread water using legs only for 2 minutes, sculling for 30 seconds.

Swimming: Front crawl for 50 yards, elementary backstroke for 50 yards, breaststroke for 25 yards, back crawl for 25 yards, butterfly for 25 yards, front flip turn, backstroke flip turn.

Private Lessons

One on one individualized instruction with focus on personal safety, growth, endurance, and confidence to achieve personal set of goals.

Adult Lessons

Custom instruction focusing on safety, personal goals, confidence, and overall sense of comfort and well-being in the water.

Where can I sign up for swim lessons in Ramona, California?

Turtle Cove Aquatics is based in Ramona, California, and offers private, affordable swimming and water safety lessons to adults and children at all ability levels.

Founded on the belief that a foundation of safety and basic skills can open the door to a lifetime of fun, instructor Katherine Koger helps students learn through gentle teaching and encouragement. She brings over 25 years of experience to educate students in a fun, stress-free environment close to home.

What do I bring to a swim lesson?
  • A properly fitting bathing suit
  • Goggles
  • Towel
  • Non-slip footwear for exiting pool area

***ALL children under the age of three (3) years old who are not potty- trained MUST wear a swim diaper. If possible, please use a reusable diaper, as they have a tighter fit and help reduce the possibility of accidents in the pool. An accident can result in a pool closure lasting as long as 24 hours. Extra disposable diapers and reusable diaper covers are kept on hand and are available for purchase at Turtle Cove Aquatics.

What should I do before a swim lesson?
  • Please apply sunscreen half an hour before the lesson. This gives the sunscreen a chance to soak in and work instead of coming off in the water.
  • Drink plenty of fluids to prevent dehydration.
  • Wear a rash guard to prevent hypothermia if prone to getting cold easily.
  • Secure long hair away from the face before getting in the water.
  • Wait outside the gate for Katherine upon arrival for best safety practices.
When should I arrive for my lesson?

Lessons begin and end at a very specific time. Please make sure you are on time for optimal transitioning.

What is your cancellation policy?

Please understand, that once you select your class(es) and complete payment, you are reserving a slot in a program that is in high demand and can be filled by other students. As a result, your payment will be retained and the opportunity to reschedule will be available should extenuating circumstances arise. Please notify Katherine Koger by phone (760)533-8625 within 48 hours of cancellation, and a reschedule will be possible.

Under 48 Hours: It is recognizable that last-minute emergencies do occur, so as a courtesy, please call Katherine at (760)533-8625 as soon as possible for notification of an absence. A reschedule will not be possible if cancellation occurs less than 48 hours before the selected time slot.

No-shows will be charged at the normal rate, and rescheduling will not be possible. Turtle Cove Aquatics by Katherine reserves the right to refuse service to anyone for any reason.
